The “Health Ambassadors Training”, a training for cultural mediators/translators working with refugees in different NGOs to be better equipped to facilitate refugees’ access to health care, took place in Istanbul at the Chamber of Urban Planners on 24th – 26th of May 2019.
More than 20 participants and 13 trainers participated, representing 15 organizations. The training focused on the common challenges faced by refugees in access to healthcare, the ways to overcome these challenges and make better use of the referral system among both hospitals & NGOs, the specific aspects cultural mediators/translators need to be aware of while doing medical translation such as ethics. The trainers composed of both medical and non-medical profiles and used case studies to illustrate the common challenges in access to health care adopting an interactive method developed by a group of actors & storytellers.
