MSF SA Urban Spaces Team responded to the attacks that took place in Johannesburg from 3 to 6 September 2019 against foreigners. The local team, after conducting an emergency needs assessment, intervened by distributing approximately 400 hygiene kits to the 588 adults and 227 children whom were displaced and sought refuge in a school hall.
MSF also provided basic medical care while other organizations, including SA local NGO “Gift of the Givers”, the local municipality’s disaster management and the Red Cross, provided food parcels.
