01. Intro

In Athens, Greece the local team of MSF Urban Spaces initiative is composed of civil society actors from migrant and refugee communities, environmental NGOs, individual citizens and activists and members and volunteers from MSF’ s Greece association.

02. Activities

With focus on the contexts of migration, diversity and inclusion and COVID – 19 pandemic fight, the team has been implementing a series of campaigns, capacity building workshops, recreational and outreach activities in support of the most vulnerable groups of society.

So far, they have reached out to support over 55 migrant and refugee communities and more than 150 students in 3 schools of Athens.

Partners of Athens MSF Urban Spaces local team:

  • Melissa is a network for migrant and refugee women living in Greece. It aims to promote empowerment and active citizenship, to create and sustain bonds, and to build a bridge of communication with the host society. Founded in September 2014 with the direct involvement of migrant women leaders, it has members from 45 countries who live and work in Greece.
  • Greek Forum of Refugees is a network of 11 refugee communities and organizations, formal and informal in Greece. The aim of the Greek Forum of Refugees is to create a sustainable structure that will unite all refugees living in Greece through the implementation of a collaborative program of action. Its main objectives are: a) the protection and awareness raising regarding refugee rights, b) raising awareness about refugee issues, c) promoting participation and social inclusion.
  • Greenpeace Greece is the regional office of Greenpeace International. Greenpeace is and independent campaigning organization, which uses peaceful, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems, and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future.
  • Greek Forum of Migrants is a networkof migrant organizations and communities in Greece. It functions as a union – body, and its members today number around 40 Communities – Organizations. Its mission is the promotion of migrants’ integration by enhancing their individual and collective responsibility and participation, through collaboration with institutions, NGOs and society on a national and European level.
  • El Sistema Greece was founded in order to offer free music classes in the refugee camps in Attica. It is a community music project that provides free music education to children and young people in Greece. All children – no matter their origin, nationality, or religion – are not only inspired to strive for a better future, but thanks to music, they are given a platform for dialogue togetherness across diverse communities.
