01. Topic: Refugees and Migrants

Athens is a city with a strong historical background in refugee and migrant population settlements. However, the massive inflow of migrants and refugees since 1990 has significantly transformed the urban tissue and the composition of the city population.

Athens related to any other city in Greece has the highest density in migrant population, as almost 22% of its residents are migrants.

02. Activities

Urban Spaces will implement a series of activities that mainly focus on education, capacity building and awareness raising for refugee and migrant issues:

Educational Activities for Students

  • Interactive workshops for students and educators, regarding inclusion and cultivating a positive narrative for refugees and migrants

Capacity Building Activities

  • Leadership Training for Refugee Women’s Communities
  • Communication skills and How- to- organize open events

Awareness Raising

  • World Refugee Day – ‘Festival of communities’ public event

03. Partners

There are four key partnerships, creating synergies:

  • Melissa, is a network for migrant women in Greece, promoting empowerment, communication and active citizenship.
  • Greek Forum of Refugees and Migrants, is a multinational network of migrant and refugee organizations in Greece. Its main aims are: a) the protection and awareness raising regarding migrant and refugee rights, b) raising awareness about migrant and refugee issues, c) promoting participation and social inclusion
  • Generation 2.0 for Rights, Equality & Diversity , a nonprofit organization consisted of people with different origins who work together to promote equal participation in a diverse society, through the empowerment of communities.
  • Greenpeace Greece, is the regional office of Greenpeace International
